Taking a pole dancing class for the first time

Taking a pole dancing class for the first time

Thinking of joining a pole dancing class? And … it’s your first time? That’s wonderful! Don’t worry, we got you. We’ve prepared a few useful tips for you, so you will be better prepared and even more excited than you probably already are. There’s also something in the goodie blog for you at the end of this note.

Dress comfortably

Wear comfortable and flexible clothing that will allow you to move easily.

The most important thing to consider when choosing your pole dancing attire is comfort.

You want to be able to move freely and not be distracted by uncomfortable clothing. For tops, it is recommended to wear a fitted tank top or sports bra. This will allow you to move your arms freely and provide enough support for your upper body.

Avoid wearing loose clothing or anything that can get caught on the pole. For bottoms, it is best to wear shorts that are not too long. This will prevent your shorts from getting tangled in the pole. It's also a good idea to wear shorts that are fitted, so they don't fall down during your routine.

Pole dancing requires bare feet, so you don't need to worry about shoes. However, if you prefer to wear shoes, it's recommended to choose shoes that are specifically designed for pole dancing. These shoes have a sticky sole that will provide traction on the pole.

t's best to avoid wearing jewellery or any accessories that can get caught on the pole. This includes necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. If you have long hair, it's a good idea to tie it back to prevent it from getting tangled in the pole.

Drink plenty of water before and during class to stay hydrated. Have a bottle next to your dancing pole at all times and go for a refill if needed.

Focus on having fun

Pole dancing can be intimidating, but try to let go of any self-consciousness and just enjoy the experience. Yeah, we know, easier said than done. However, you can always ask your instructor to maybe dim the studio lights a bit. Or put some music that you love on the speakers.

Stretch before class to warm up your muscles and prevent injury. Usually, the instructor will get you through the stretching exercises at the beginning and the end of the session.

Remember, they are as important as pole dancing moves as they will prevent injury and muscle sores.

Listen to your body

If you're feeling any pain or discomfort, stop and rest. Have a sip of water, try to relax and get on that dancing pole when you feel better.

Every beginning is hard but with love and a strong will, you can and will achieve whatever you desire. Listen to Sergia and Kristy and you'll get extra wings to start.

Regular practice is important to improve your skills and build strength. Try exercising more in your free time. If you don’t have plenty - well, who does, really - try out the new wall pilates workouts everybody seems to be doing it lately.

Take it slow

Pole dancing requires strength and coordination, so don't be discouraged if you can't perform certain moves right away. Practice makes it better and pole dancing is known to be a demanding activity. Keep the faith and fail often.

Use grip aids

Chalk or grip aids can help you maintain a grip on the pole and prevent slippage. You can find great ones on our website.
